“Tweet saved onchain to Ethos by @buz_eth”Original Tweet: "Slashing on Ethos is boring I find the slashing feature on Ethos quite underwhelming, but I see potential for improvement. Here are my thoughts: Pros Momentary Visibility -> Slashers do get a brief spotlight on the front page, giving them a bit of recognition in the community. Ability to Shape Discourse -> Slashing can influence which takes get highlighted (or penalized), thus steering conversation in certain directions. Cons No Direct Positive Impact -> There’s no real benefit for slashing or out‐voting someone. The slight visibility on the front page doesn’t provide enough incentive to encourage regular usage. One-Sided Mechanic -> The slashee loses credibility, but the slasher doesn’t gain anything substantial, making it feel unbalanced. Limited Access to the Feature -> Since only three people can slash within a 48‐hour window, most users won't get the chance. This exclusivity stifles broader participation. Same People Repeatedly Using It -> Those who do manage to slash are often the same highly active users, making the process feel repetitive and predictable. Slashes Are Boring and Obvious -> Most slashes end up targeting clearly unpopular or “safe” takes, leaving little room for genuine debate or meaningful engagement. Suggested Improvements Introduce Tangible Incentives -> Reward slashers with XP, invites, credibility boosts, or badges, something thats meaning Expand Participation -> Loosen the constraints on who can slash (and how often) to diversify who’s slashing and which posts get challenged. Promote Thoughtful Engagement -> Provide scenarios or prompts to encourage more nuanced slashes, rather than defaulting to obvious “safe” targets. Balance the Outcome -> Ensuring successful, well‐justified slashes offer a positive gain for the slasher (e.g. weighted XP based on credibility of whos voting), while also penalizing harmful, safe or low‐effort takes. Conclusion By putting these ideas out there publicly, I hope to open a dialogue and encourage feedback from other community members. I hope that @0x5f_eth and the @ethos_network team will find some useful insights. I genuinely enjoy using Ethos and want to see it keep improving, so I’m happy to offer my perspective in public, even if short-term negatively impacts me on Ethos. I look forward to hearing what others think, too."
