Not because they claim to be the "fastest" or the "cheapest," but because they're addressing an real, technical problem: How do rollups and other blockchains communicate with each other without a point of central trust? Their core argument is building a decentralized finality and sequencing layer upon which rollups can compose in real composability. They're essentially after real composability. What made me consider it seriously is the people on the team — Stanford researchers like Benedikt Bünz who clearly know their stuff. Their Twitter handle, @EspressoSys, has that same demeanor as well. No blather, no yapping — just plain old-fashioned technical announcements and real progress. And with collaborations in the works that include such initiatives as Arbitrum and Polygon, it's obvious they're concerned with building, not reputations. They've amassed more than $60 million from premier investors such as a16z and Electric Capital, which indicates that even the heavy-hitters recognize the potential here. Of course, it is early days, and the rollup sequencing space is becoming crowded, but to my eyes, Espresso is among the few projects making a substantial bet on what the future Web3 stack is actually going to look like.
