The use of Namespaced Merkle Trees (NMTs) and Data Availability Sampling (DAS) enables light clients to verify block data without needing full node trust or full data download something that was genuinely groundbreaking. However, the ecosystem has been shifting. More Layer 1s are either implementing native DA solutions (like Ethereum with Proto-Danksharding) or baking their own DA layers into rollup-centric designs. The rollup-as-a-service trend increasingly leans toward vertically integrated stacks. This raises a critical question: Is there still room for a generalized DA layer like Celestia when so many chains are becoming "self-sufficient"? Don’t get me wrong I admire Celestia’s tech and its vision of modular blockchains. But with the meta moving toward full-stack rollups and native DA solutions, I'm not entirely convinced it will remain the go-to choice for builders in the next 1–2 years. The tech is solid. The vision is strong. But the meta? It's definitely evolving.
