“my FIRST seen NFTs ever”BAYC is basically the OG blue-chip NFT collection that had every crypto bro mortgaging their house to "ape in" back in 2021. We're talking 10,000 randomly generated cartoon apes with different traits - some got laser eyes, others got gold fur, and the really rare ones made people go absolutely feral. Started by Yuga Labs for like 0.08 ETH mint price (absolute steal in hindsight), but then floor prices went absolutely parabolic. We're talking 100+ ETH at peak - that's like dropping a Tesla on a JPEG of a monkey, and degens were doing it with diamond hands. The whole vibe is this exclusive "yacht club" where owning an ape gets you into parties, merch drops, and supposedly gives you "utility" (classic NFT buzzword). Celebrities started flashing their apes as Twitter PFPs - Steph Curry, Eminem, Jimmy Fallon - basically turning it into the ultimate flex. Then Yuga Labs went full degen mode and launched ApeCoin, gave ape holders free Otherdeeds for Otherside (their metaverse play), and basically built an entire ecosystem around cartoon primates. The community goes hard with the "aping together strong" mentality. Of course, like most NFT projects, it's been a wild rollercoaster of pumps and dumps. But BAYC stays relevant because of that cult-like community loyalty and the fact that owning one still signals you're either rich AF or were early enough to the party to not get completely rekt. The expansion of BAYC back on 2022-2023 was pretty crazy and onboarded a lot of new people with capital that were interested in the future of web3 and some of them even interested in ART.
