Pirate Nation was a browser-based, pirate-themed on-chain game with engaging gameplay and a dedicated community, but faced significant challenges including poor token economics, a collapsed economy, and ultimately shutdown of the original blockchain and game. The team raised $33 million and initially delivered a fun strategy card system with seamless transactions and generous airdrops, but later outsourced support to third-party email, cut features, and broke promises around mobile versions and future service development, leaving players frustrated with credit losses, glitches, and token deflation. They have since pivoted to rebuilding on Abstract blockchain with the same token.

“Started on a good foot, ended up falling flat on our heads”Pirate Nations was one of the most talked about web3 gaming projects since their crazy raise ($24M+)/ They had an evolving game which people participated in for many seasons and pvp events. Players even locked their earned tokens and Founder Pirates because they trusted Pirate Nations will fulfill all its promises. And then suddenly things started falling apart. Devs started blaming players for p2e failing, not acknowledging that maybe their own game was not as good as they have been promoting. Full of bugs, laggy, repetitive content. They kept baiting people to lock in their tokens and pirates for an ecosystem token. And probably provided a way for investors to dump that way. And now we come to know there is no such ecosystem token possible. We are being asked to burn our founder pirates which at the top were selling for thousands of dollars for now mere $50 worth of tokens. Game has been decommissioned and with it all our progress and items. And even for that they provided a tiny allocation of tokens. All the boasting that fully onchain games live forever was an obvious lie. One has to wonder why make a fully onchain game (with worse UX) when its fate is no better than a normal web3 game. The least they could do was provide proper compensation to their players and especially pirate holders. But instead they decided to pay them a petty allocation to get rid of their players completely. So no one call them a rug. Wouldn't participate in any new projects from Pirate nations now.Siddartha Gupta · 1344· 1y ago · negative10
