From 9 activities · Jul 2026Pirate Nation was a browser-based, pirate-themed on-chain game with engaging gameplay and a dedicated community, but faced significant challenges including poor token economics, a collapsed economy, and ultimately shutdown of the original blockchain and game. The team raised $33 million and initially delivered a fun strategy card system with seamless transactions and generous airdrops, but later outsourced support to third-party email, cut features, and broke promises around mobile versions and future service development, leaving players frustrated with credit losses, glitches, and token deflation. They have since pivoted to rebuilding on Abstract blockchain with the same token.

I’m actually steering a pirate crew, collecting resources, and battling in a way that feels like a proper game rather than a DeFi app dressed up with graphics. From the start, the onboarding surprised me. The process of creating a pirate, setting sail, and beginning quests didn’t feel overwhelming or overly technical. I’ve played other blockchain games before where you’re stuck in endless wallet prompts or marketplace confusion, but here the flow was smoother. That gave me confidence early on. That’s not to say it’s flawless. The pacing can feel slow if you’re the type who wants instant action. Some missions repeat, and I had to remind myself that strategy and progression are the real hooks here. But I came away with the sense that the devs are building something sustainable, not just a quick hit. My biggest takeaway? Pirate Nation gave me a reason to keep logging in not just to “earn,” but to see what’s next for my crew.

dave · 1318· 1y ago9“a bad ending”You believe in the team, you believe their promises, you buy their NFTs for $3,000, and then they give you $50 and tell you to get lost and stop bothering them while they look for other suckers.

majezic · 1239· 1y ago · negative5“Pirates Don't Play by the Rules”Pirate Nation has shown a history of repeatedly forcing loyal players to walk the plank instead of rewarding them as originally promised. S1 started in April 2024, with a large focus on social quests, expanding to over 60 partnerships, many of whom have since folded. In June, 6 days before the end of the season, US players were excluded from claiming rewards wasting 2 months of their time. At the end of the S1, these shifty pirates decided 25,000 players were ineligible to claim rewards based on not achieving an arbitrary and previously unmentioned gameplay threshold. Only 10% of these players would receive a reward via a raffle. In July, multi-accounting was no longer allowed, and it was confirmed that S2 rewards would be restricted again in an unknow way to prevent this. In November, they finally announced the ranked requirement rewards for eligibility 1 week before the end of a 5-month-long season. They also promised S3 rewards would be much fairer and more transparent. In January, they reversed the rule on multi-accounting as well as reinstating all accounts that were banned for it previously. In February, the game was opened to everyone, expanded to Ronin, and started offering optional VIP membership for in-game rewards and bonuses on earning. In March, one week before S2 ended, they announced that you must own an NFT or purchase VIP in order to qualify for the rewards you worked for all season long. The next month the claim went live, but if you claimed your tokens, you would lose 90% of the rewards. You must wait 180 days to gain the entire amount. The following day, they apologized for a lack of transparency and clear communication once again, refunding the cost of VIP in PIRATE tokens which had already lost around 30% of their value. These decisions have resulted in real financial ramifications for their players. They exhibit a pattern of overpromising for attention and changing the terms in the 11th hour to benefit themselves, insiders, and whales. Nearly every excuse for these changes has been the sustainability of a token economy and NFT collection that are both down nearly 90% from ATHs.

angel · 1302· 1y ago2“It was very promising”I discovered this game a couple of years ago, when it was still closed beta. After chatting with the community, I was given access to the game. They were very nice and friendly people :) It was probably one of the best web3 games of its time. Hearing the "pirate" music in the game immediately brings back a warm, pleasant feeling of nostalgia. The guys from Pirate Nation gave out a really nice airdrop of their token to everyone who played their game. Their recent events were simply amazing! Even though the game remains an Abstract Pirate Nation Arcade, it's a shame we can't play the full version anymore. Thank you for this excellent gameplay experience. I hope we meet again someday.
