I was busy trading futures on #Binance and just starting to dip my toes into DEXs like Uniswap and Matcha, figuring out this new world. Airdrops were starting to buzz around, with #Uniswap and @1inch having just dropped theirs, but in my community, hardly anyone was paying attention except a few of us airdrop hunters. who were all about that meta.Somewhere in those rabbit holes, I found #dYdX, and what grabbed me was its bold claim: the first decentralized futures DEX. “OG's”I’ve used dYdX for a while and I must say it feels like one of the few DeFi protocols that actually competes with centralized exchanges in terms of liquidity and trading experience. The perpetual markets, non-custodial design, and speed make it stand out. From an ethos standpoint, I respect the fact that dYdX gives traders real sovereignty over their funds and decisions. The move from StarkEx to their own Cosmos appchain shows commitment to decentralization and performance that’s a big plus. But there are areas that make me pause: The order book model still carries some centralization history, and I’m watching to see how much control truly shifts to the community with v4. The UI, while powerful, can overwhelm new users — it still feels more tailored to pros than casual DeFi traders. Regulatory pressure is another risk; being a derivatives protocol means dYdX is always in the spotlight. Overall, I see dYdX as a project that pushes DeFi forward and deserves credit for bringing real innovation. Still, it hasn’t reached the final form of decentralization yet. If they get it right with the Cosmos chain, dYdX could fully live up to the ethos of fair and open finance.
