“Generational Founder”I have infinite respect for Brian for how he's led Coinbase, especially in the face of the extraordinarily adversarial environment that the USA presented for many years. He not only stood up for his own company, but he stood up for the entire crypto industry. The Coinbase platform itself might be riddled with issues, but none of it detracts from the trustworthiness or respect I feel towards Brian.

“sitting in the ivory tower”The recent statement by Brian was so delusional. After he changed his PFP to "Coinbase Man", a memecoin (new B20 standard) surged by 50-80x over night and then plummeted a day later when he changed it some cryptopunk. In his first said that he wasn't aware of any token and then later mentioned he did notice the ticker occasionally (before changing the PFP). Coinbase/Base team could've used that momentum to bring back hope to the Base chain and increase trust in them by supporting the trenches and community in general but instead he said they want to focus on serious builders? You can have both Brian. Crypto first and foremost always a gamble and therefore it's intrinsic to the sector that you need the degenerates that gamble on memecoins while also having "serious" builders that build e.g. RWA infrastructure. Most likely the degens would start to become interested in the "serious" stuff. While I do respect what he built, over the past 1-2 years he has become dettached from the reality of his customers/community. Would love to actually see that change but recent actions don't give me much hope currently.
