Brian Armstrong co-founded and leads Coinbase, transforming it from a startup into one of the world's largest and most trusted crypto exchanges and the first major exchange to go public. He built Base, a Layer 2 network that has achieved real adoption and performance, and is widely recognized for prioritizing long-term infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and mainstream adoption over short-term hype. Known for calm, disciplined leadership through multiple market cycles and regulatory pressure, he advocates for economic freedom and financial accessibility while emphasizing security and responsible innovation. Some question recent messaging around memecoins and community communication, and concerns have been raised about potential conflicts between Coinbase's corporate interests and broader ecosystem health, but his sustained impact on bringing crypto into institutional and mainstream finance is broadly acknowledged.

“real OG founder”Respect always had for Brian Armstrong. Very few crypto people have achieved the feat of building and operating Coinbase throughout several bull markets, vicious bear markets, regulatory wars, and all sorts of vitriolic attacks The thing that stands out to me is he didn't drift away when th going got tough. Coinbase was the first place to buy crypto and has been one of the biggest on ramps into this market, whether it is blasting off or crashing. So much so it can be easy to miss that level of consistency, but such a clear factor behind why the company is where it's at today Of course, not every decision has gone down well. Being a founder at that scale, he gets criticism from all directions. Critics feel that with Coinbase has become more centralized or too much like a regulated financial institution, while others argue those compromises were prudent to gain traction for general acceptance No matter how you feel about him, he has undeniably changed the industry. Blockbuster and a plethora of crypto companies that launched in their wake have failed over the years, but not Coinbase - it grew, adapted and survived. That, to me, speaks volumes of the leadership behind it and where they see it in the long term U might not agree with everything Brian does, but you can acknowledge the fact that he was one of if not the single most impactful builders in crypto. Above all else, he appears adamant about furthering the industry and bringing crypto to a much wider audienceInob.ink · 1430· 4mo ago18
