Farcaster is a decentralized social protocol built on Base and Ethereum that emphasizes portable identity, on-chain ownership, and builder culture. The platform is praised for its clean UX, Frames (interactive posts), integrated wallet, and genuine community focused on real conversations rather than clout-chasing—often described as crypto Twitter done right. However, adoption remains a persistent challenge: monthly active users peaked around 80,000 in mid-2024 but collapsed to under 20,000 by late 2025, with critics noting it has failed to break out of the crypto bubble despite strong technology and funding. While early users and developers remain bullish on its potential and ecosystem of mini-apps, concerns persist about sustainability, moderation inconsistencies, and whether the platform can ever compete with X for mainstream attention.

“Excellent social platform”Excellent social platform, I use over year. I believe we will still have a lot of news in it, and integrations as we already see in the Pró Ethos.

“Farcaster’s not hype‑driven — it’s high‑trust. Decentralized convo done right. Follow for real Web3 dialogue, no noise.”@farcaster_xyz , this isn’t just another chat app posting hype. The community feels legit. Threads spark real convos, not just echo chambers. What’s cool is how it pulls builders, thinkers, and real users into the same space. You’ll see dev updates, alpha pointers, meme-check moments, and a few long-form threads that'll actually make you think. No fluff, no FOMO bait. Feels more like a digital café than a screaming stadium feed. If you're into honest discussion and decentralized vibes, Farcaster got your back.

“I subscribed to PRO AMA”Farcaster is an amazing platform if you are really good at linkedin posts or already semi well known in the builder space or if you are a girl who likes to post your travel/food/OOTD photos there. There are opportunities there for sure but its tough for a completely newcomer to be there unless you are in a cabal. No cap

“The social network nobody moved to”Farcaster had a genuinely interesting idea: a decentralized social protocol where users own their identity, built on Ethereum and later Optimism. The technology is solid: the Snapchain infrastructure upgrade delivered 10,000+ TPS and 780ms finality, which is world-class engineering. The problem is that nobody showed up to use it. Monthly active users peaked at around 80,000 in mid-2024 and collapsed to under 20,000 by late 2025, a platform that never broke out of the crypto bubble it was born in. Revenue cratered by 85%, and despite raising $180 million at a near $1 billion valuation, the platform generated just $2.8 million in cumulative revenue over five years before being sold. In January 2026, founders Dan Romero and Varun Srinivasan handed the project to Neynar, a quiet admission that the original vision hadn't worked. Along the way there were controversies too: accusations of shadow-banning critics, alleged whitelisting to inflate metrics, and power badge manipulation, uncomfortable charges for a protocol that marketed itself on decentralization and censorship resistance. The core problem, as one DeFi commentator put it bluntly, is that X's network effects are almost impossible to break head-on, and Farcaster never found a compelling enough reason for mainstream users to switch.

“Different and captivating”I’ve been part of Farcaster for a long time now. It’s had many challenges and has been truly exciting. In this space, I was able to receive some great rewards. I was active in the Degen and Rare projects, and I interact with its other apps on a daily basis. I post content there and explore all kinds of posts from different people. It’s very different from other platforms and extremely popular.

“Decent shot at SocialFi”Dan Romero printed on this one, but tbh it was the best shot yet at nailing a SocialFi app.

“A good project but it will be hard to face the fierce concurrence”Farcaster is an onchain social protocol built around a portable identity and an open social graph, with activity anchored on Ethereum (via L2) and “casts” propagated through hubs so the UX stays fast and relatively cheap which is a good point. Personally, I see it more as a high signal niche than a future mass market giant. The product is interesting, the tech is solid but I don’t really see how it breaks out versus the existing social giants and their resources. In my view it stays a strong playground for crypto native users and builders but not necessarily the mainstream social platform of tomorrow.
