Litecoin is a 2011-era cryptocurrency known for fast 2.5-minute block times, low fees, and reliable uptime over 13+ years—often called "digital silver" to Bitcoin's gold. While widely respected as a proven payment network and testing ground for upgrades like SegWit and MimbleWimble, it faces persistent criticism for losing momentum and innovation, with many viewing it as a legacy project coasting on past reputation rather than driving meaningful development or ecosystem growth.

“The crypto Silver: A pragmatic and obscure journey.”I would like to start by stating the facts. Litecoin has had a perfect 100% uptime since inception in 2011, which for me and many regular cryptocurrency users as a means of exchange and payment is of extreme importonace. This positions Litecoin network as a very reliable Old Horse. I have used it for years for payments in association with BitPay and never encountered meaningful issues. The fact that thanks to its reliability, loyal and active community and low cost, Litecoin Network sometimes served as a testing ground for later innovations to the crypto industrie, such as Lightning network and SegWit, which were first implemented into litecoin before being their success in Bitcoin. I would like to say that this topic is very understated and not so known in the modern crypto conversation, and this is a key point when expressing litecoin (as a network) importance to the greater industry. But Litecoin Core development Team and Charlie Lee are also a fact, a very controversial fact in Litecoin's history. While I acknowledge that the founder and the team should be compensated financially in any form for their work in Litecoin's development and Litecoin's maintenance, I also think that their selling of assets, specially at all time highs, while knowing that most of the userbase kept holding at those same times, is very questionable. Why not taking profits and selling major supply of Litecoin in 2016 or 2017? Why was it made in 2018? Those are questions that will remain in the air, and will remain part of Litecoin's history. Since Litecoin has a core development team, and a recognized doxxed founder, it has by definition a clear conflict of interest and a financial motive. It is very difficult for humans to control our greed and our desire for more. So it is only natural that they at some point consider selling. But this also means that Litecoin decentralization is not so real at is seems. Or at least token decentralization was not real. There is also the possibility that Charlie Lee sold his Litecoin coincidentally with the entire crypto market top. But after some years i have thought: What are the odds of that happening. At the 2018 market top, many reputable crypto projects started being sold off, including litecoin, and in many cases, by their own teams and founders. I can only think, could this be coordinated and the market top be caused? In any case, every market participant is responsible for their actions and risk is very real, specially in such a young industry as it is crypto. We can not just put the teams and founders at fault. The fact that some of us made money and some of us lost money during Litecoin selloff is not direct fault of the Litecoin dev Team or charlie lee or the broader crypto industry. It is only that as part of this review i would like to make emphasis that there exist no such project as completely decentralized as many would sugest, specially in the case of litecoin.MarτinXBT (rtrd/acc) · 1242· 1y ago · neutral4
