Monad is a high-performance EVM-compatible Layer 1 with impressive technical architecture—parallel execution, 10,000 TPS target, and low latency—that has attracted a passionate community and strong funding. However, the project is deeply polarized: supporters praise the tech, speed, and community bonds formed during testnet, while a substantial portion of the community feels betrayed by the airdrop distribution, which heavily favored influencers and external crypto participants over testnet users who spent months testing and providing feedback. The core tension centers on broken trust—many early supporters view the tokenomics as extractive and the community rewards as unfair, with testnet participants receiving minimal allocation despite their contributions, while others remain bullish on the technical foundation and long-term potential.

“Gmonad bums”Monad is a vampire attack on Ethereum, which is fine I mean they can try. The way they went about it was to build a cult like community and to be fair, they succeeded. It was so cringe and over the top that CT made fun of them for years (for that and the running joke of a never happening Mainnet/TGE). The community is (was) also very, very large. Hundreds of thousands got lured by the promise of a fat airdrop and of something big. Why big? Because if the tech part of the project was kept in the background for a long time, Monad is a L1, not another late-to-the-party L2. When Testnet launched farmbots were ready. This combined with devs reaching 10k TPS made for fantastic vanity metrics. They raised 225m in a final round and expectations grew even larger. Fast forward to today and TGE. Ofc most Testnet users were left out and farmers are furious (understatement). More importantly though, they made the strategic decision to shower "high signal accounts" with tokens (even those who FUDed the project from day one) and worked their way down the social ladder. The most candid KOLs even expressed their surprise (ICO Beast is a legend). As @kaiynne put it: "Airdrops have devolved into a protection racket this cycle". So Monad farmed their community and rewarded those with nuisance power, using numerous criteria to distract from the simple truth. They wanted anyone with an onchain port of 100k+ on their good side. This however is just one part of my negative opinion of Monad. We are not going to discuss the tech stack or review code in a Ethos review and it is actually the ecosystem that is my biggest concern. Since Monad is "fully" EVM compatible it is entirely up to ETH builders whether they want to open shop on Monad. But why would they? Incentives? Some L2s have much deeper pockets and a good head start. The most predatory and least aligned ones might but how would that reflect on the chain itself? After antagonizing a big part of the community and rubbing memes in their faces I can't imagine Monad other than a complete ghost town a year from now. Perhaps if they made amends and focused on building a unique eco... Still my best case scenario is that Monad turns into a L2 eventuallyFrogLeader · 1453· 1y ago · negative15
“Monad - scam”Monad was built with a critical purpose ; to deliver a blockchain that is fast, scalable, and highly decentralized. I often describe it as a smoother, faster, and stronger Ethereum. Since inception, the focus has always been on-chain fundamentals: wallets created, daily/weekly/monthly transactions, active users, and blockchain speed. Have you stopped to ask yourselves why Monad doesn’t prioritize Discord roles, follower counts, or "mindshare” statistics like other projects? The focus has always been on what happens on-chain; not off-chain theatrics. So why do you undermine those who keep this vision alive daily? Many testers spend hours; sometimes 1 to 8 hours every day, for over 185 days: stress-testing, experimenting, and engaging on-chain. Yet you position yourselves as superior because you post gym selfies, trade memes, or move between projects. Is that truly more valuable? Worse still, testers often spend their own money to acquire faucets just to keep contributing. Why should their investment of time, effort, and resources be dismissed, while others who only tweet “gm gmonad” endlessly are celebrated? What frustrates me most is the double standard. If your campaign against incentivization targeted everyone equally, yappers, role-holders, and casuals; it might at least appear principled. But no, it always falls hardest on testers: the most faceless, voiceless group, the easy scapegoats. Meanwhile, those holding special roles continue to allocate fortunes for themselves while arguing testers deserve nothing.Ian🇺🇸 · 1305· 1y ago · negative10
