Monad is a high-performance EVM-compatible Layer 1 with impressive technical architecture—parallel execution, 10,000 TPS target, and low latency—that has attracted a passionate community and strong funding. However, the project is deeply polarized: supporters praise the tech, speed, and community bonds formed during testnet, while a substantial portion of the community feels betrayed by the airdrop distribution, which heavily favored influencers and external crypto participants over testnet users who spent months testing and providing feedback. The core tension centers on broken trust—many early supporters view the tokenomics as extractive and the community rewards as unfair, with testnet participants receiving minimal allocation despite their contributions, while others remain bullish on the technical foundation and long-term potential.

“Monad Chain Airdrop: All Hype, Little Reward”Eligibility Rules That Seem Mismatched with Expectations: Many Hyperliquid traders, HypurrNFT holders, and frequent testnet participants believed they would qualify, sometimes due to earlier indications. But when the criteria were published, many with high volumes or prolonged participation were excluded. For example: people who traded over $200 million on perps at Hyperliquid reportedly didn’t make the cut. Tiny Representation of Core Community: Only about 5,500 wallets of Monad’s own community met the eligibility criteria just ~0.74% of the project’s Discord membership. That’s a shockingly small share. In contrast, a much larger number of the airdrops was allocated to users outside the core community some of whom may barely know anything about the project. Poor Transparency / Vague Criteria; The screening rules weren’t communicated very clearly in advance. Which kinds of interactions counted? What was the exact formula? Many feel that “moving goalposts” or fine print meant that “active contribution” didn’t guarantee eligibility. Effort Not Rewarded: There are multiple reports from testnet users who put in long hours, many transactions, lots of interactions yet ended up ineligible. For these people, it feels like their effort was wasted. Scam Risk & Confusion: Ahead of the airdrop, fake Telegram ads and malicious links mimicking the claim portal were circulating. Scammers exploited the anticipation, leading to confusion and risk. Monad’s team did issue warnings, but for many users, the need for such warnings underscores poor communication/preparation.afaringan.eth · 1284· 1y ago · negative9
