“Privacy by default is the only privacy that works”Monero got the one thing right that Zcash didn't: privacy isn't optional. Every Monero transaction is private, so the anonymity set is everyone. Zcash made shielded transactions opt-in and for years the vast majority of activity sat in transparent addresses, which means the "private" coin mostly wasn't, and the few who did shield stood out for it. Monero also never had a founders' reward, a trusted setup, or a company steering it. Just a decade of a stubborn community shipping upgrades and getting delisted from exchanges rather than compromise. That's what a privacy coin is supposed to look like.
