Moonbirds is an OG NFT collection that launched with massive hype around pixel-art owls and innovative nesting rewards, but suffered years of mismanagement, unfulfilled promises, and controversial decisions like the CC0 pivot under founders Kevin Rose and Ryan Carson, leading to steep price declines and community erosion. Since acquisition by Orange Cap Games under Spencer's leadership in 2025, the project has seen renewed momentum with clearer direction, TCG integration plans, active community engagement, and a significant price recovery, though trust remains fragile after the previous failures and airdrop execution issues. The collection's strong art and historical significance in the NFT space persist, but its future depends on whether the new team can deliver on promises after years of disappointment.

“A Project With Potential, But a Rocky Road So Far”I’ve been watching Moonbirds for a while now, and my take is… mixed. On the one hand, the project started with a lot of promise. The pixel owl art was cute, the community was active, and it felt like one of the early blue-chip NFTs. But the journey since then has been anything but smooth. The original team, led by Kevin Rose and Ryan Carson, left a lot of people scratching their heads. Promises like airdrops, collabs, and “7-figure artists” didn’t materialize. The fanny packs and socks as rewards? Not exactly what people were hoping for. Then came the sale to Yuga Labs, which many saw as a red flag. The brand’s reputation took a hit, and the floor price dropped hard. Now, under new management, Spencer and Orange Cap Games there’s a noticeable shift. The timeline feels more active, collabs are happening, and some folks are bullish again. Spencer seems to be trying to rebuild the IP, and there’s talk of a “Luca” narrative to revive interest. But for others, the damage is done. Trust is low, and the floor price is still way below its peak. I’m not here to say it’s a total loss or a guaranteed comeback. The art still has value, and the community isn’t dead. But the past actions of the old team and the uncertainty around execution make it hard to get too excited. If the new leadership can deliver on real, meaningful projects, maybe Moonbirds can regain some of their former glory. For now, I’m keeping an eye on it but not betting big.Nere · 1388· 1y ago · neutral12
