Nic Carter is a Bitcoin and crypto researcher known for data-driven analysis on quantum risk, stablecoins, and proof of reserves. Co-founder of Coin Metrics and partner at Castle Island Ventures, they are recognized for independent thinking grounded in evidence rather than hype, with years of work on Bitcoin fundamentals, stablecoins, and policy. While their blunt and political takes don't align with everyone, they're valued for explaining their reasoning clearly and refusing to echo prevailing sentiment—though one reviewer questions their trustworthiness.

“A Scholar of the Ledger and a Scourge of Humbug”Be it hereby attested that I stake my name and my ether upon Master Nic Carter, partner at Castle Island Ventures, co-founder of Coin Metrics, and as formidable a pen as this industry hath yet produced. Where others trade in rumour and enthusiasm, Master Carter dealeth in evidence. He it was who laboured to give us honest measures of these networks when there were none to be had, and who pressed the exchanges to prove their reserves long ere calamity made the practice fashionable. When the nation's bankers were quietly turned against our trade, he set the matter down in plain ink and named it, and was vindicated in the fullness of time. He is a disputant of the first rank, and I would counsel no man to cross quills with him unprepared. Yet his quarrels are ever with falsehood and folly, be they found among our enemies or, as oft happeneth, among our own friends. He will revise his opinion when the facts require it, which is the mark of a true scholar and not a mere partisan.

“Seems like a grifter he has been at the forefront of one too many griftings not to be trusted i reckon.”

“Worth reading even when I disagree”Nic is one of the few crypto voices I check even when I expect to disagree. There is real work behind his opinions: Coin Metrics, Castle Island and years of research on Bitcoin, stablecoins, proof of reserves and policy. He explains why he thinks something instead of repeating whatever the timeline already believes. His replies can be blunt and political, and I definitely don't agree with every take, but that independence is part of why he is worth following. Strong positive from me.

“Trusted Research”I followed Nic’s Bitcoin research on quantum risk and stablecoins, and his data-driven analysis helped me think more clearly about long-term security and market structure. He’s one of the few voices that makes complex crypto topics actually practical.
