“A Rushed Experiment with More Hype Than Substance”1. Lack of Technical Transparency From the start, SOON has been vague about its underlying architecture. While it claims to be an “optimistic” network on Solana a concept typically associated with Ethereum it hasn’t clearly outlined how optimism is implemented, how fraud proofs work (if at all), or what innovations distinguish it from a standard sidechain. The documentation is sparse, and the whitepaper (if you can find it) reads more like a pitch deck than a technical blueprint. 2. Dubious Value Proposition Solana is already known for its speed and low fees key pain points that Layer 2s solve for Ethereum. So why exactly does Solana need an optimistic rollup? SOON fails to convincingly answer this question. It appears to be solving a problem that doesn’t exist, essentially adding unnecessary complexity to an ecosystem that’s already performant. 3. Security Trade-Offs If SOON is genuinely building an optimistic network, then users deserve to know how security is maintained without Ethereum’s well-tested fraud proof infrastructure. Instead, users are expected to “trust the process” with little to no transparency on how funds are safeguarded, how sequencer failures are handled, or what kind of decentralization roadmap (if any) is in place. 4. Early Ecosystem Feels Shallow At this point, SOON feels like a playground for low-effort meme coins and opportunistic NFT projects, rather than a thriving ecosystem. There’s very little real utility or innovation happening on the network, and the developer community appears small and disengaged. If this is the best Solana can offer in terms of Layer 2 experimentation, it's disappointing. 5. Overhyped by Influencers Much of SOON's momentum seems to come from crypto influencers rather than genuine community adoption or technological breakthrough. The narrative is fueled by buzzwords “modular,” “hyper-scalable,” “next-gen L2” — without the substance to back it up. This raises red flags about long-term sustainability and user trust. Conclusion: SOON might have aimed to push boundaries, but right now, it’s more of a confusing detour than a leap forward for the Solana ecosystem. Without clearer documentation, stronger security assurances, and a meaningful value proposition, it risks fading into irrelevance or worse, causing real damage to users who buy into the hype without understanding the risks.
