Towns is a Web3 social infrastructure platform built on Base that enables token-gated, on-chain communities with encrypted messaging, ownership mechanics, and monetization features—often compared to Discord but with blockchain integration. The product has attracted genuine users who appreciate its clean interface, community focus, and features like tipping and membership NFTs, though adoption remains concentrated within niche Web3 communities. Post-TGE, the project faced significant challenges including disappointing airdrop distributions, token price decline of over 90%, user retention issues after mercenary farmers departed, and slower technical performance compared to competitors—leaving it positioned as a solid concept with real product foundation but struggling to maintain momentum and broader appeal.

“"Web3’s Answer to Discord"”I’ve been exploring Towns for some time, and it’s a refreshing take on a Discord-like platform tailored for Web3. It offers greater control over community spaces and seamless crypto integration. Managing groups is straightforward, with on-chain features like tipping and token-gating adding real value. I’m eager to see its evolution, especially with the anticipated airdrop on the horizon.

“Onchain social getting real”Been following what towns is up to and honestly it feels like a fresh vibe for decentral chat. people get the token stuff but the core idea of owning your community onchain is next level. seems like they’re actually pushing the space forward rather than just chasing hype.

“Cool concept, not that accessible”I've been interacting with Towns and even have built my own town for my podcast, 2140. I love the idea of connecting crypto communities in this way, with all these exclusively on chain perks, but at the same time, I find it highly counterproductive to make most towns have paid entries as a norm. The whole point of adoption is to lessen barriers and to make sure that people who don't know much about crypto can access cool conversations and advice freely. So yeah, kind of still on the fence.

“Decentralized social for Web3 communities”Townsxyz is building a crypto-native alternative to Discord decentralized group chats with on-chain governance, rewards, and reputation. Despite some airdrop drama, the platform feels polished, fair, and community-first, making it a top contender for Web3 social spaces

“little brick + little brick = Towns”I’ve been thinking for a while about how to evaluate this project — it’s well-built and has a strong, distinctive idea. In the end, I’m giving it a neutral rating, and here’s why: Towns never wanted to be like others. Take, for example, the unique preferences for each Town — big projects often reward their members with early information, project tokens, and so on. Communities really need platforms like this for interaction — elite groups, gathered by shared interests, with access to alpha information. The “buildings” mechanic is genuinely interesting; I spent quite a lot of time in this project. However, as time went on, the roadmap (at least for me) became less clear. For now, I’m pausing my engagement with the platform, as I’d like to see more functionality. A large community and a significant investment round have already been gathered, so the same building pace should be maintained — but for now, there’s a period of calm after the TGE. In summary: the project and the idea are excellent, but new features are needed to keep people engaged.

““A Project That Understands What Web3 Really Needs””I’ve been following this project for quite a while and what impressed me the most is how well it understands the actual needs of Web3 users. The team didn’t try to reinvent the wheel just to look innovative; instead they focused on solving real issues like smoother communication, better user experience and proper decentralization. Using the product daily, you notice small details that show how much thought was put into the design and overall flow. It feels stable, intuitive and genuinely useful, something many Web3 platforms still struggle to achieve. I think this project is only at the beginning of what it can become and I’m excited to see how it keeps evolving.

“Discord en la web 3”Towns es un proyecto que funciona como discord pero de forma descentralizada, puedes unirte o crearte canalas para crear comunidades de lo que quieras, funciona muy bien y tiene una comunidad muy activa.

“I love their app and it is very intuitive but the the thing I think was the poor airdrop execution”

“Now I'm really into the Towns app, and I love it!”It's designed to be user-friendly and easy to understand, even for new users. The interface is simple and organized in a logical manner, so you don't have to spend time searching for the features you need. Additionally, the app operates smoothly and without any glitches. While I would have preferred more customization options, overall, my experience was positive.

“Discords fake killer”The team claims that Towns will replace Discord, but they have failed to do what makes Discord successful: listening to the community and providing a user-friendly interface. Discord thrives because it is simple, fast, and built around people. Towns offers neither. Instead of improving the product, they attached a random token exchange, then went silent for the entire spring and summer, and then reappeared with a tiny airdrop that satisfied no one. If this is their idea of innovation, why would anyone use Towns at all?
