zkSync is a Layer 2 scaling solution with solid zero-knowledge technology, but community trust collapsed following a controversial airdrop widely criticized as unfair and opaque. Early users who spent years testing the network, paying gas fees, and building volume reported receiving minimal or no rewards, while tokens were heavily allocated to the team and insiders. The airdrop's massive gap between minimum and maximum allocations, aggressive Sybil filtering that excluded legitimate users, and the team's dismissive response—including mocking the community on social media—left the ecosystem burned and the chain largely abandoned. Post-airdrop, the network has become a ghost chain with minimal activity, compounded by security incidents and alleged token minting that further eroded credibility.

“A project that burned through goodwill faster than it shipped”I used to be bullish on ZKsync. Back in the early testnet days, it genuinely felt like the chain had the potential to become one of the top L2s. The tech was fast, the UX felt refreshing, and the vision of scaling Ethereum with zk-rollups was something everyone in the space wanted to see succeed. For a long time I kept using the network, checking updates, and trying to believe in that future. But somewhere along the road, something shifted. Instead of maturing into a stronger ecosystem, the chain slowly turned into this strange mix of delays, hype cycles, and disappointing execution. The moment that really broke things for me was the airdrop. It wasn’t just “someone didn’t qualify” - the whole rollout felt disconnected from reality. People farmed for years, only to get brushed off, while others who barely touched the chain cashed out. The gap between what users expected and what they received was enormous. What made it worse was the atmosphere afterward. You could feel the frustration everywhere: developers leaving, community morale collapsing, users calling it a “dead chain.” And honestly? The energy on ZKsync today really does feel quiet. Not dead, but… hollow. Less activity, fewer builders, more people walking away than joining. That’s what happens when trust gets eroded - it’s not about the tokens, it’s about the relationship. I wish the story was different. I wish it was the groundbreaking zk-rollup ecosystem everyone hoped for. But as someone who used it for a long time, waited through the hype, and watched the community fade, I walked away feeling like ZKsync had everything it needed to win - and somehow still managed to lose the people who believed in it the most.Mihail Pochekai · 1432· 11mo ago · negative10
