They cite examples of how companies like OpenAI and Anthropic, due to their centralized structures, unfairly restrict, censor, and politicize access to cutting-edge AI technologies and data centers. In response, they launched their own project, Gonka AI, which incorporates certain principles derived from Bitcoin. Roughly speaking, their goal is to have a network of independent miners provide the computational power required for demanding open-source AI models, operating as a unified protocol - one characterized by far less centralization than the current landscape dominated by a handful of companies in the U.S. They are also well-known for having built and subsequently sold the social media platform Snapchat to its current owners. All in all, they seem like solid guys; you can tell they are truly passionate about their work. I hope they succeed and that this turns out to be a win-win story for the AI space.
