From 12 activities · May 2026NEAR Protocol is a Layer 1 blockchain founded in 2018 known for fast, cheap transactions and user-friendly design powered by Nightshade sharding. The protocol positions itself as AI-native infrastructure for autonomous agents and DeFi, with strong developer accessibility and wallet integration. While praised for technical solidity, scalability, and longevity through multiple market cycles, critics argue the ecosystem lacks compelling user adoption despite solid fundamentals, and that leadership has made strategic missteps—with some viewing the project as trend-chasing rather than delivering on its promises.

I used to be super bullish on it, but after spending more time using it, I feel like the spark isn’t there yet. The tech is solid, but the ecosystem still hasn’t figured out how to really pull users in

In the last cycle, it was sharding and the Rainbow Bridge with EVM compatibility; in this cycle, it has successfully created a new narrative called "Chain Abstraction." While these narratives were sufficient to generate new hype and market expectations, they failed to produce anything beyond that. Although I acknowledge that the founder made significant contributions to developing LLM models, this doesn't make the protocol he created great. Near has lost its presence while Solana and Base were creating consumer apps and various meme-centered initiatives, Avalanche was expanding institution-focused businesses, and Sui was onboarding new users through innovations like Move, Mysticeti, and Zk-Login. Near excels at creating hype but fails to generate sustainable energy. After a few more cycles like this, no one will remember Near.

It has been through multiple cycles, different narratives, market highs and lows, and still keeps moving forward, building, adapting, and finding new ways to stay relevant. That kind of longevity means something in this space.

Cosmosun · 1515· 7mo ago20“Fast chain”NEAR is one of those ecosystems that focused heavily on making blockchain technology easier to use. While many projects built for crypto-native users, NEAR put a lot of attention into user experience, scalability, and making Web3 feel less complicated for everyday people. What made NEAR stand out was its approach to scaling and developer accessibility. It built an ecosystem designed to support applications that can grow without sacrificing speed and usability. Over time, it also expanded into AI and broader infrastructure narratives while continuing to develop its core ecosystem. What I like about NEAR: - fast transaction speeds - low fees - strong focus on user experience - developer-friendly ecosystem - growing AI and infrastructure vision Like many major ecosystems, NEAR has gone through market highs and difficult periods, but it kept building and adapting through different cycles. The projects that continue evolving instead of standing still are usually the ones that remain relevant. Many blockchains compete on hype alone. NEAR focused on usability and long-term infrastructure, and I see it continuing to play an important role in the future of crypto.

Velvet Soul · 1400· 5mo ago19“Easy To use, fast, retailable but need some hype”The first im used near, its when near ecosystem gone mad at 22s-23s, im bought some NFTs but im forgot the project but its like asronout one on paras marketplace if im not wrong, and im sure this one the hypest project on near at this momment. Easy used near, because integrated with so many people wallet like Trustwallet and many more so no need adding RPC, etc, which feels more friendly compared to most chains. Transactions are fast and cheap, so from the user side it works well. But at the same time, the ecosystem doesn’t feel as active or crowded as other L1s, so sometimes it feels a bit quiet when you’re exploring dApps. Overall, it’s a solid chain that works reliably, even if the activity isn’t as buzzing as bigger ecosystems.
