Scroll is a zkEVM Layer 2 that severely damaged community trust through an extractive airdrop distribution, high fees, and perceived insider favoritism. Despite raising $70M+ and building initial hype, the project alienated early users by allocating minimal tokens to the community while favoring Binance stakers and team members, leaving most participants unable to recover gas fees spent. The network has since become a ghost chain with collapsing TVL and usage, widely characterized as one of the most disappointing and fraudulent launches in recent crypto history.

“LITERAL SCAMMERS. Explanation below:”1⃣ They milked fees as long and as much as they could, by delaying the gas fee upgrade. 2⃣ They launched badges, to then reward them LESS than their cost in gas. 3⃣ They launched a useless dice NFT that cost $25+ in ETH, but had 0 usage afterwards and did not even help for the airdrop. 4⃣ They allocated nearly as many tokens to Binance's 2 day program as they did to ALL testnet users, mainnet users (which had been using the chain for a year at that point), and contributors combined. 5⃣ They allocated tokens to their team wallets and didnt exclude those from the already very small % 6⃣ They pre-announced the airdrop snapshot 7⃣ They propped up chain TVL with fake liquidity (on their selfmade dapp Pencils Protocol) and that way stole a big percentage of the airdrop just before the snapshot 8⃣ All main dapps (which were either supported or hailed as great by the team) either rugged or just stopped building 9⃣ They excluded Scrolly, the main Scroll community. 1⃣0⃣ The price of $SCR is down only. 1⃣1⃣ The team basically stopped communicating, no new dapps are built post-TGE, and the team pivoted to writing nonsense articles about topics they don't understand, such as AI and healthcare (https://x.com/3liXBT/status/1872559576677257672). 1⃣2⃣ They canceled season 2 of the airdrop for bullshit reasons after people spent months farming it. “I Was Disappointed”I completed Scroll’s testnet with effort, but in the end, I wasn’t even eligible. This felt unfair to me and honestly didn’t make me happy at all.

“$80 million in investment flushed down the drain”Scroll was conceived beautifully - “an honest zk-EVM built for the community, with a focus on transparency and technical excellence.” In theory it sounded like the future. In practice it became yet another example of technological “poetry” crashing into reality. The project raised tens of millions from top funds like Sequoia, Polychain, Bain, Variant. Years of development, testnets, and promises of “the most honest launch.” The community believed, waited, tested - thousands of users interacted with the network hoping for a fair airdrop. And when it finally happened in 2024 - everything followed the same old script :)) Most of the tokens didn’t go to the people who built and tested - they went to insiders and investors. Regular participants got scraps, and the distribution looked like a preplanned insiders’ lottery. “Community” ended up as a word from a marketing pitch. Lots of words, conferences, white papers, and “missions” but behind them, a void. The network runs but no one uses it. The story of Scroll isn’t about zk-proofs - it’s about how $80 million can vanish into a fog of ideals if you forget a simple truth: in crypto, the winners aren’t the ones who shout “we build for the community” the loudest - they’re the ones who actually do it

“Unfair, Unclear & Unprofessional”Scroll started with lots of hype and a flashy on-chain campaign, positioning itself as a major L2 contender. But over time, it became one of the most disappointing projects in the space. Many users spent considerable time and gas fees earning badges in hopes of a fair airdrop, only to be met with an unfair distribution that didn’t even cover their costs. Worse than the poor tokenomics was the team’s consistently unprofessional attitude throughout the process. Scroll didn’t just fall short, it let its entire community down.
