Sophon is a lifestyle blockchain built on zkSync's ZK Stack, designed to make crypto invisible by embedding it into gaming, entertainment, social apps, and everyday activities through features like a gamified crypto card, gasless transactions, and a Social Oracle using zkTLS for privacy-verified data. The project raised over $70M and delivered a well-received airdrop to ZKsync power users, earning praise for rewarding real on-chain activity and thoughtful product design with strong UX. However, it faced significant momentum loss after launching its L2 in late 2024—the chain shut down after nine months due to high maintenance costs and lack of differentiated value, with the team pivoting to build consumer apps on Base instead. Community sentiment is mixed: supporters highlight the clear vision, solid tech, and focus on mass adoption over hype, while critics point to the failed L2 execution, low user adoption, token price collapse of 80%+ post-launch, and accusations of raising capital on hype without delivering sustainable products.

“Where User Experience Meets Crypto”What keeps me interested in Sophon is the focus on making blockchain feel invisible to the end user The strongest crypto products will be the ones that people enjoy using without having to think about the technology underneath and that is exactly the direction Sophon seems to be exploring I like projects that prioritize real user experience because I believe that is what will bring the next wave of adoption

“Layer 2 Affordable Entertainment”I knowSophon as onchain entertainment platform useful to crypto community. I've used it a little bit, and I had a great experience with them In addition, they have given away a generous airdrop to ZKSync users, so Sophon is a great way to have some fun on-chain. Secondly, they are great for social apps

“A Project Worth Following”What I appreciate about @Sophon is the consistency behind the project. The team continues to build with a clear vision, and you can see the effort they're putting into creating something that lasts. Rather than relying on hype, they focus on delivering updates, improving the ecosystem, and keeping the community engaged. It's the kind of project that gives me confidence to keep following its journey.

“Crypto & AI Consumer Experiences”Sophon is building new consumer experiences at the intersection of crypto and AI. Their next project PaywithPyre looks interesting. Worth following if you’re into crypto + AI space.

“Long-term focus”Sophon is building with a long-term mindset by focusing on consumer adoption instead of crypto complexity. Gasless transactions, account abstraction and seamless onboarding remove the friction that keeps many users away from Web3.

“messy but (maybe) honest”They raised decent money to build a consumer ZK L2 focused on gaming and everyday experiences, actually shipped it, then recently decided to sunset the whole chain. Now they’re repositioning as an app studio building on Base instead, with Pay with Pyre as their next thing. The self-awareness to kill their own infrastructure bet is refreshing in crypto. At the same time it feels a bit messy for anyone who bought into the original chain narrative — the token is now attached to a project that’s basically starting over on the product side, and it’s still unclear whether the new direction will actually bring real users.

“Building the Future of Consumer-Focused Layer 2”Sophon is building an innovative Layer 2 ecosystem with a strong focus on bringing Web3 to mainstream users. By combining scalable infrastructure with consumer applications such as gaming, entertainment, AI, and social experiences, the project is making blockchain technology more practical and accessible. The team's emphasis on user experience, low-cost transactions, and real-world adoption demonstrates a long-term vision beyond speculation. Sophon's integration with the zkSync ecosystem and commitment to expanding consumer-focused applications position it as a promising project in the Layer 2 space. The project continues to show consistent development, community engagement, and a clear roadmap, making it a credible platform to watch as the Web3 ecosystem evolves. Rating: Positive ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Promising L2 with Strong Community”Sophon is building something interesting in the ZK ecosystem, and its profile reflects that. With a strong positive reputation and an active community, the project has earned trust through consistent development and engagement. Still early, but definitely one to keep an eye on as the ecosystem continues to grow.

“Bold pivot or expensive lesson”Raised $60M to build an L2, then shut it down and moved to Base two days ago. The honest take: "Infrastructure is commoditized" is correct — but you don't need $60M and two years to figure that out. The node sale holders who paid for Guardian NFTs are the real losers here. First product Pyre launching in July — entertainment finance is an interesting category. Whether the pivot is visionary or damage control depends entirely on execution.
