Berachain is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 built on Proof of Liquidity (PoL) with a bear-themed brand and triple-token system (BERA, BGT, HONEY) that generated strong early hype and community engagement, particularly through its testnet phase and airdrop. The project has faced significant execution challenges post-mainnet—token price collapsed from $15 to under $2, developer momentum faded, and the PoL mechanism underperformed expectations—leading to criticism of mismanagement, VC extraction, and overhyped promises. Community sentiment remains divided: supporters praise the ecosystem's DeFi infrastructure, low fees, smooth UX, and fair airdrop distribution, while detractors describe it as a failed experiment, ghost chain, or scam; governance concerns have also surfaced around undisclosed investor protections that misaligned incentives.

“The chain still has a Bear on it.”We are almost at the 1 year point of the chain being real and there is no sugarcoating that it has been a rough journey. This is a Positive review mainly through the lens of answering to the FUD and criticism around Berachain. 1)Proof of Liquidity has failed. A completely new experimental chain mechanic to bring the different entities closer (users, validators, projects) cannot be expected to launch perfectly balanced (needs time to mature and analytical baseline). No one else can offer rewards for user actions in the same way as POL can. 2)There is no community. There is no farmer and paid (yap) for community as there is no external incentives to be around. This has not stopped close knit groups to stick around the chain despite the hardships (Steady Teddys, Miberas, (Booga)Bullas & Berachain FUD cartel) to name a few. 3)Price is down. That's a fact and the only major driver purely from that standpoint (DAT) has yet to work out in any meaningful way. 4)Grifting/DOA projects. Nature has run its course here. FDN has accepted that decisions towards RFA were way too optimistic and got taken advantage of. Realistically there is only the path to move on from here and accept it as a total loss. Same for projects who launched without PMF and in tough market conditions couldn't continue. The strongest survive who can attract users and build a product actually sought after. Why stick around or discover Berachain? Deep culture (not saying it's for everyone) Best yields (with the assumption that $BERA can reverse the price trend) POL and new direction on a chain level towards Real World Assets/Businesses. Both of which are unproven but with high potential upside.ghrrison · 1239· 9mo ago5
