“Real OG”The 2022 debate with SBF is the clearest proof of why Erik is a real OG. While Sam argued that DeFi needs to be regulated and that trusted intermediaries are the answer, Erik calmly but uncompromisingly defended why permissionless systems, self-custody, and "code is law" actually matter, and he was right. A few weeks later FTX collapsed, the "trusted intermediary" narrative collapsed with it, and Erik's position stood exactly where it was. As someone who's been in Bitcoin since 2011, founded ShapeShift, and held a consistent ideological line for over a decade, Erik didn't just win that debate, he won on the principle behind it. He talks straight, doesn't bend to hype, and that consistency is itself a reason to trust him. Writing as someone who's followed him for a long time. A real OG.

“Real EM Enterpreneurs”Brix is building one of the more serious EM-focused products I've come across: a TRY carry-trade vehicle that tackles a market most teams avoid because emerging-market infrastructure is genuinely hard mode, thin liquidity, FX volatility, and regulatory friction. What gives me conviction is the team. Alp and Ataberk are sharp, responsive founders who clearly understand both the crypto rails and the underlying carry mechanics, and they've pulled in people with real TradFi backgrounds which shows in how they think about risk and execution, not just growth. That combination is rare in this segment and it's why I think they can genuinely reshape how EM carry is accessed on-chain. Reviewing as someone who has followed the product and the team directly. Early but credible watching the next few months closely.
