From 3 activities · Jun 2026Goldfinch Finance pioneered unsecured lending to real-world businesses and SMEs in emerging markets through a novel DeFi structure, but v1 suffered catastrophic losses from multiple borrower defaults totaling tens of millions of dollars. Liquidity providers have faced years of delayed recovery and compensation with limited transparency, while the team shifted focus to new products without adequately supporting affected investors.

Normally, taking out a loan in crypto requires putting up collateral, but Goldfinch breaks away from that. It provides unsecured loans to real-world businesses, especially SMEs in emerging markets. I think this approach is valuable for financial inclusion and also proves that DeFi doesn’t have to remain locked within the crypto bubble. The structure is also interesting: there are LPs who provide capital, backers who take on more risk for higher returns, and auditors who evaluate borrowers. It creates a trust system that’s built on the community, which makes the decentralization aspect feel much more convincing. Of course, there are risks. Uncollateralized lending naturally comes with the danger of defaults, and the regulatory side is still unclear. Even so, Goldfinch expanding toward institutional funds and moving closer to regulatory compliance gives me more confidence in its future. In short, Goldfinch stands out to me as something unique within DeFi. It’s risky but full of potential, and what makes it even more appealing is its aim to deliver real social impact.

kratos · 1228· 1y ago5“Goldfinch: Broken Trust After v1 Collapse”Goldfinch’s v1 suffered massive losses due to simultaneous defaults from several borrowers, resulting in tens of millions of dollars lost for liquidity providers. The recovery and compensation process has been delayed for over a year, without any clear progress or transparent updates. While the team was busy promoting new private credit products, they failed to properly support affected investors, and critical information was withheld. The community’s trust in both the team and project has effectively collapsed. The restructuring and recovery efforts (led by the CRO) have stagnated for months, and promised updates are repeatedly missed. Since the v1 failure, accountability, investor protection, and open communication from the team have been severely lacking. Based on their handling of the situation, Goldfinch is no longer a project I can trust. If you want more details, check out the #v1-deals channel on their Discord.

Out of 8 borrowers - 2 are in default and 6 in restructuring. Basically money is gone. > > 1st time I deposited in Sep 2021, then 2 more times in 2022. It's been fucking five years and I still haven't got my money back in full (and never will), let alone the promised 10% APY. > > Dashboard on their website says total loss rate is 20% but in reality its closer to 70% now. Since I requested the withdrawal in August 2023 I received only 30% of my money back. Best case scenario is I get another 10% over the next 1-2 years. > > They hired a CRO with a $400k yearly salary who is posting updates twice per month in discord and thats about it. Occasionally they may request $50k - $150k for various other needs. All this money is being taken from the treasury of course. > > CT doesn't know about it yet but Goldfinch is closing down soon. There is "wind down" announcement posted in discord, soon it will be public. Their official twitter page is run by a reply bot anyway so who cares anyway. > > $GFI token is -99% and imo will be delisted sooner or later because project is dead. > > Prime example of how fragile DeFi can be.
