Jesse Pollak is the founder and primary face of Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 built by Coinbase, credited with transforming it into one of the most active and accessible L2 ecosystems through relentless community engagement, daily promotion, and support for builders and creators. His consistent shipping, low fees, and developer-first vision have earned widespread respect, though his backing of creator coins, meme tokens, and projects like Soulja Boy's coin—some of which crashed dramatically or proved to be scams—has drawn significant criticism for recklessness and poor judgment despite apparent good intentions.

“Builder of Base & On-Chain Visionary”Jesse Pollak is the creator of Base, the Layer-2 blockchain by Coinbase, and he leads protocol work there. Before Base, he ran consumer engineering at Coinbase (think Coinbase, Coinbase Pro, Wallet) and even founded a startup, Clef, for passwordless identity solutions. He’s big on “on-chain everything” — wants crypto tools to be useful, fair, and empowering.

“Sell shaming”While Jesse has been trying to be a central figure and aid in Base ecosystem growth, I'm really not a fan of his thoughts on the Kaito airdrop. Airdrops trade tokens for attention/marketing so to scold someone for talking about their selling of an airdrop doesn't sit right for me. It's a win for the space that Kaito rewarded users.. Left a little sour taste

“Основатель с большой буквы”Jesse невероятно открытый к сообществу. Я никогда бы не поверил о том, что я смогу с ним пообщаться, но мне удалось. Я сделал пост о BaseApp, который понравился ему. Он оставил мне позитивный reply, сделал репост моего поста и подарил несколько кодов для тестирования закрытого приложения. Также меня удивило, что он попросил написать ему, когда я сделаю это и дать обратную связь. Этот парень заботится о своем продукте и это говорит многое о его репутации.

“GOATed founder”in my opinion Ethereum ecosystem before Base release was totally different and all changes happened because of Jesse Base being one of the top L2s right now is directly because of his non-stop work, onboarded more companies and builders to crypto than most people will in their entire careers being one of the most important person in our industry, guy still responds to good comments and boosts builders instead of just farming his own engagement, solid follow if you want to see what real ecosystem building looks like instead of just empty promises

“Builders with Punk avatars always seem to be impressive”The ability to build is something everyone can recognize, but when it comes to building versus marketing, I think Jesse leans more toward the latter. He’s never shy about getting involved himself—tweeting, posting videos—what stands out most in my memory is when he shaved his head. Jesse really loves meme coins, but his portfolio isn't exactly something you’d want to copy, mainly because he holds too many of them. In one sense, it’s a bit like rolling dice—just seeing which one lands better. In another sense, it feels more like he collects meme coins for fun. Maybe. Who really knows?

“[Anon review] A Critical Assessment of Their Contributions and Allegiances”Jesse prioritizing personal gains over community benefits, particularly in favor of Coinbase. Their actions have raised significant concerns within the crypto space, leading many to question their allegiance and the impact of their decisions on the broader community. It is crucial for the community to hold such individuals accountable and promote more ethical behavior to ensure the long-term health and trustworthiness of the crypto ecosystem.

“top builders on base also top fudders”It all started with this tweet 👇 https://x.com/jessepollak/status/1976739673512067569 He and his buddy CJ tried to stir noise about binance listing fees, spreading FUD without proof. After all that drama, Coinbase listed BNB anyway 💅

“A Pillar of ETH Base and Web3 Influence”When I think about people who genuinely shape the culture of the ETH Base community, Jesse immediately comes to mind. He’s not just an influencer in name—he’s a connector, a motivator, and someone who consistently leads by example. What sets Jesse apart is his balance of vision and presence. He understands the bigger picture of where Web3 and Ethereum are headed, but he also knows the importance of day-to-day interactions—checking in with members, amplifying new voices, and creating spaces where people feel heard. That combination of strategic insight and community heart is what makes him such a valuable partner in ETH Base. As an influencer, Jesse brings reach and visibility, but more importantly, he brings trust. His words carry weight because they’re grounded in authenticity. He doesn’t just hype projects for the sake of it; he highlights ideas, builders, and movements that align with real value and momentum in the space. From my experience, Jesse has been a steady source of encouragement and guidance. He pushes the ETH Base community forward—not just by being present, but by actively building relationships, sparking discussions, and keeping the collective energy alive. To put it simply: Jesse isn’t just a partner in ETH Base—he’s one of the reasons the community feels like a home base for so many of us in Web3.
