The idea of collecting digital badges for attending events seemed cool on paper, but in reality, it often turned into a frustrating experience. Minting a POAP could take hours, and sometimes you even had to pay fees just to get one which, let’s be real, didn’t hold much actual value. What made it worse was how the team seemed to cash out and disappear once the initial hype was over. The project stopped getting updates, lost its momentum, and quickly fell behind. What could’ve been a fun, community-driven experience turned into a bit of a joke an idea that looked good in theory but failed completely in execution. In the end, POAP is a perfect example of a project with a nice concept but poor delivery. Without real user value, consistent updates, or a sustainable vision, it became just another Web3 project that burned bright for a moment and then faded into irrelevance.

They suspected that I was farming POAPs and just went ahead and burned all my POAPs. If they don’t like you, they can do the same with yours. Know that you don’t actually own your POAPs after a free claim technically, the team can burn them.

The protocol allows anyone (a project, an isolated person) to create and distribute a Poap (erc-721 tokens) tied to an event, or just a meeting, or just a thinking! It's nevertheless important to say the protocol is for now centralized, quality of the drops and contracts are supervised by the team. You attend an event? you meet someone irl? you are attending an X or a Discord space? a crypto conference irl? or maybe you are just testing a protocol onchain? You want to reward certain contributors (see Gitpoap, or Giveth poaps for donors), builders, collectors (see BAYC drops) ? a web2 company working on its branding and providing new experiences ? Possibilities are infinite... It is no accident that most of the notable crypto conferences have partnerships with POAP, and many of their attending projects distributing poaps at these events...Many, many OG web3 protocols already use Poaps. Also POAP is listed on ethereum.org This is only my own experience, but each member of the team I could hear just seems simple, sweet, and passionate, including Patricio, the founder, who is well known in the ecosystem. Poaps are purely visual digital collectibles, many issuers call for artists to create them, this implies a significant artistic dimension and another way for promoting artists. POAP Home is the app (with no wallet signature needed) you need for an optimal minting and collector experience. (see moments, collections...) Please note this advice is imperfect, i'm just a Poap enjoyer, and a regular random user, which you can verify easily with my ENS. I wanted to share my experience here. Thank you for reading!
