“Interesting concept / don't think it works”Kudos to the creators of Ethos for trying to tackle a challenging problem: trustworthiness in a space where people are financially incentivized to lie. Not only that, people are incentivized to suck up to those with more influence, regardless of their track record. This app faces an uphill battle. It is a colossus of a problem to solve and I'm not sure if it's possible. There will likely be way too many positive reviews of people because they are more visible. Negative reviews will likely only surface in situations where it is very clear that they should be there like outright scams and rugs. People will be hesitant to negatively review someone with 100% positive reviews for fear of backlash and being bullied. There has always been an incentive to do that on social media and it's worse in CT and web3. People are trying to build relationships in this space and gain their own influence. Cozying up to others with big influence is seen as a shortcut. "You're either with us or against us" is a big vibe socially. No detractors allowed. Understandably Ethos is incentivizing people to participate on the app with a points system. This might be making the situation worse in the short term (since people want to participate without rocking the boat), but Ethos needs a base to work from and to prove it functions properly. I suppose after the rewards dust settles we will see how well this app performs, if people trust it, and whether or not they continue to find value in it. Will Ethos be a valuable tool in the fight for honesty, transparency, and trustworthiness? Or are people only here for a handout? Only time will tell!on Ethos · 2217· 1y ago · neutral6
