Towns is a Web3 social infrastructure platform built on Base that enables token-gated, on-chain communities with encrypted messaging, ownership mechanics, and monetization features—often compared to Discord but with blockchain integration. The product has attracted genuine users who appreciate its clean interface, community focus, and features like tipping and membership NFTs, though adoption remains concentrated within niche Web3 communities. Post-TGE, the project faced significant challenges including disappointing airdrop distributions, token price decline of over 90%, user retention issues after mercenary farmers departed, and slower technical performance compared to competitors—leaving it positioned as a solid concept with real product foundation but struggling to maintain momentum and broader appeal.

“The Web3 Discord”I find it very useful as an alternative to Discord. The design is intuitive and excellent, and it has many features, such as the ability to tip users. There are Towns related to communities, which you can only access if you hold (for example) an NFT from the project (like Doodles). In my opinion, these are very useful if you want to interact with specific communities. I see a lot of potential in the project and think it’s still underrated.

“Decentralized, Token-Gated Group Chats for Web3 Communities”Towns is redefining online community interaction by combining the familiarity of traditional group chat platforms with the benefits of blockchain technology. Its decentralized approach offers users unparalleled control and security, making it a compelling choice for Web3 communities seeking autonomy and privacy.

“Mixed feelings”To be honest haven't seen any web3 messaging platform that takes off mainly they seeking funds raising and an airdrop then ghost their community hope towns will change my mind but that's based on my past experiences

“Towns App is revolutionizing group chats”Towns App isn’t just another chat platform because it’s a new era of digital communities. Unlike traditional messaging apps, Towns puts ownership directly in the hands of its users, giving people the freedom and control they deserve over their conversations.

“A communication protocol with terrible communication”Towns misled many people into thinking they had over a week to be eligible to claim the airdrop when in reality they did the snapshot within a day. They made no mention of it on their X account that they said would announce all snapshots. Still they were happy to let people deposit eth on their app and go home empty handed. Bullish!

“Unnecessary app”I have zero sympathy for this app. In my opinion, it's not useful and there's no real need for it while we have Discord. I was actually neutral at first but then they handled the airdrop poorly. They said 10% would be distributed but only gave out 3%, likely saving the rest for a Binance listing. Negative.

“fading momentum”towns has a strong concept and real product foundation, but after tge the momentum faded, token performance weakened, and users didn’t stick around, leaving it still promising but not fully there yet

“"Web3 Messenger"”They certainly made a strong impression, and I’m really looking forward to trying the product and learning more directly from the team. From a B2B perspective, they are among several projects that are incredibly difficult to connect with, so I’m pretty sure others have faced similar challenges.

“Blending Social and Web3 in an Experimental Way”The feed focuses on a mix of community-building tools and crypto-native features, from group chats to integrated tipping. Posts are clear and consistent, with an emphasis on vision rather than hype. Interaction with followers is still limited, so it feels more like an announcement channel than a place for dialogue. Overall, it’s worth following to see how the idea of social-finance evolves, but it’s still early days to judge its long-term impact.

“Promising SocialFi App With Room to Grow”I believe SocialFi is a big part of the future, and the mix of social media with blockchain is a powerful combo. Towns has been one of the projects I’ve kept an eye on for that reason. I tried using it for a while and really liked the design and blockchain integration. It felt well thought-out. That said, performance varied between devices, which made it hard for me to use consistently in the early days. Still, what I did use, I enjoyed. Recently they launched their token, and like most airdrops, it follow the drop trend after that. If the team keeps pushing development and polishing the app, I think they can bounce back. If not, they risk fading into just another forgotten token. I’ll be watching closely post-TGE.
