Towns is a Web3 social infrastructure platform built on Base that enables token-gated, on-chain communities with encrypted messaging, ownership mechanics, and monetization features—often compared to Discord but with blockchain integration. The product has attracted genuine users who appreciate its clean interface, community focus, and features like tipping and membership NFTs, though adoption remains concentrated within niche Web3 communities. Post-TGE, the project faced significant challenges including disappointing airdrop distributions, token price decline of over 90%, user retention issues after mercenary farmers departed, and slower technical performance compared to competitors—leaving it positioned as a solid concept with real product foundation but struggling to maintain momentum and broader appeal.

“A great project, but it does strange things”I got acquainted with this project when I heard about the airdrop and started to get involved in it. I started building my city and managed to create a city for 300+ people. As a result, I ended up in ‘Explore’ where I stayed for almost 2 months (I am telling you this so that you can understand that I am familiar with this project, and I am also signed up to Towns). They did everything perfectly, adding great features such as the ability to swap within the programme itself. They paid 90% of the entry fee to channel owners, which showed their attitude towards the community. But then the time came for the TGE, and that's when strange things started happening. First, they delayed their own deadlines. Obviously, they might not have had enough time, but then why set deadlines in the first place? Then they played around with the ‘snapshot’ without announcing it, but in the end they did it a long time ago, which is a plus, because they care about early users. Now they have promised to distribute extra points for cities by the end of Sunday, but again they have reneged on their own promise. They are delaying the TGE because they are preparing everything to perfection (the staking system is already complete). On the one hand, it's great that they are not rushing, but on the other hand, they set deadlines for themselves that they did not meet. Right now, my assessment is more positive than neutral, but due to unmet deadlines, it may change for the worse.4cs47u.base.eth · 1305· 1y ago · neutral10
