Towns is a Web3 social infrastructure platform built on Base that enables token-gated, on-chain communities with encrypted messaging, ownership mechanics, and monetization features—often compared to Discord but with blockchain integration. The product has attracted genuine users who appreciate its clean interface, community focus, and features like tipping and membership NFTs, though adoption remains concentrated within niche Web3 communities. Post-TGE, the project faced significant challenges including disappointing airdrop distributions, token price decline of over 90%, user retention issues after mercenary farmers departed, and slower technical performance compared to competitors—leaving it positioned as a solid concept with real product foundation but struggling to maintain momentum and broader appeal.

“A deep disappointment”I discovered Towns from its inception and used it nonstop until the day of its token TGE. I organically built my community there, met many people, joined the “selected towns,” gave many tips, achieved a 115-day streak, and planned to continue using it as a decentralized Discord after the TGE. Unfortunately, they chose the wrong path, rewarding Binance Alpha and mistreating their community. For me, it is a profound disappointment.

“Lied to the Community”As most of the projects this year who giving airdrop to thei core community they promissed 10% for airdrop and now it seems like they giving only 3%...Idea was cool and huge investment, but ngl i won't bet even 3% of ppl move from Discord to Towns and sadly it will slow-bleed and die this cycle.

“Towns is Vibes”Towns brings a refreshing dynamic to Web3 communities. The experience is smooth, the vibes are real, and it feels like a platform built by and for actual users.

“future discord of web3”Towns is creating a very interesting proposal. Create the Discord for web3. Where the profits, users, and information belong to you and you can control. They've secured significant funding from major VCs like Coinbase, and they're building a real, quality product. I've been using it for over half a year and I really like it. It works well and delivers on its vision and promises. Their token is about to be launched, and it looks like they'll reward all their users very well.

“Decentralized Group Chat just like "Discord"”I will say neutral on the review, always love new project building something new on the ecosystem, has been trying Towns app for like 3 months, but the execution of TGE isn't that good, still believe for the future of Towns

“Unfair airdrop”Many times the project said that the participants of the first season would have more value than the participants of the second season, where after the investment announcement everyone started to be active with automation. It was repeatedly said about the distribution of 10% on the community and also said that Binance activity is not included in this 10%. The day before the TGE, the tokenomics were changed, on the community airdrop they allocated only 2% + 1% if the drop is blocked for a month, and on the Binance alpha and hodler airdrop (which was included in total airdrop for community) a total of 5% was allocated. It looks like a cash grab and deception of community.

“A corpse that Coinbilly left behind”Sadly Towns wont be used again by the community, maybe it was the main objective of Coinbilly when he developed it Extract money from the community -> Fill the pockets -> forget about it

“Motivated city-building for metrics, then called it farming and cut 99% rewards. One of the year’s most unfair TGEs.”

“Web3 Discord”Lots of FUD around TGE, but from what I can see it's mostly dissatisfaction with token distribution process and perceived discrepancies in the project's promises. Entitlement? Greed? Skill issues with people doing a bad job of farming?... 🤷🏾 What I do know is I've used the platform for months and find it one of the most compelling Discord replacements I've come across. For years web3 has made the most of Discord because we've had no equivalent alternatives. We've forced a square peg into a round hole. Telegram doesn't feel anywhere as immersive. X chats feel transient and impersonal. Now that we have something that's been designed and built on blockchain rails, native from the ground up and isn't the equivalent of putting hot coals in our eyes to use... I'm hopeful for broader adoption and excited to delve deeper.

“This Feels Like the Future of Group Chat”Iv been checking this out lately and its kinda like Discord but on-chain and actually yours you own your chat space, it’s encrypted, token gated, and fully programmable super clean UX, built on Base, backed by real teams if you’re into community building or just want a better way to talk on chain, towns is worth a look.

“Interesting Concept”Towns brings an onchain spin to group chats - kind of like Discord but with decentralization baked in. It’s early and not for everyone, but if you're into experimenting with new web3 social tools, it’s worth a look. Let’s see if the world really needs its community chats onchain.
