Towns is a Web3 social infrastructure platform built on Base that enables token-gated, on-chain communities with encrypted messaging, ownership mechanics, and monetization features—often compared to Discord but with blockchain integration. The product has attracted genuine users who appreciate its clean interface, community focus, and features like tipping and membership NFTs, though adoption remains concentrated within niche Web3 communities. Post-TGE, the project faced significant challenges including disappointing airdrop distributions, token price decline of over 90%, user retention issues after mercenary farmers departed, and slower technical performance compared to competitors—leaving it positioned as a solid concept with real product foundation but struggling to maintain momentum and broader appeal.

“real web3 communication layer”Towns is building something much bigger than another "Web3 Discord". At its core, it is a decentralized communication layer where spaces are owned by the community, not by the platform. What makes it stand out is its programmable onchain structure. Everything from membership to moderation is customizable, transparent, and verifiable. Whether you're managing private alpha chats or coordinating DAO governance, Towns gives you the tools to fully own and shape your space. The user experience keeps improving, and it's clear the team is focused on long-term utility instead of short-term hype. With strong backers, clean design, and token-native features like tipping and gated access, Towns is evolving into real infrastructure for onchain social coordination. Still early but already one of the most promising projects in Web3 social.

“It could have been the new Discord”I liked the idea Towns proposed when they launched the protocol. I started using it and joined Towns groups with people who were also very motivated about its potential. However, the team was greedy, and at the TGE they destroyed all hope. There’s nothing to do in Towns now.

“A DECENTRALIZED MESSENGER”Towns is a decentralized group chat protocol built on Ethereum’s Base Layer 2, seamlessly blending the familiar feel of platforms like Discord with the power and autonomy of Web3.Towns delivers a robust, secure, and user-owned experience that’s hard to beat. I explore Towns and I am impressed by its intuitive interface and end-to-end encrypted messaging, which ensures privacy without sacrificing usability. Towns isn’t just a chat app, it’s a vision for the future of decentralized communities. Whether you’re a Web3 enthusiast or just tired of centralized platforms pulling the rug, Towns offers a vibrant, empowering alternative.

“Where community and coordination actually mean something”Towns is one of the few projects in the Web3 space that truly understands what it means to build digital communities, not just groups of users, but real spaces where coordination, ownership, and culture matter. The blend of on-chain governance with off-chain usability makes it feel native to Web3 without being unnecessarily complex. You can tell the team is deeply focused on building for the long term, not chasing hype cycles. The UX is clean, the tech is solid, and the vision around permissionless digital towns opens up a lot of potential. Of course, it's still early. Not everything works perfectly, and there's room to grow in terms of interoperability and adoption. But the foundations are there, and more importantly, the values are right. Towns isn’t just building software; it's building infrastructure for a more human version of the internet.

“The Future of Messaging or Just Hype?”Towns App is a messaging platform built on the Towns Protocol, which positions itself as “the blockchain for communication.” The app allows users to own their group chats and integrate features like wallets directly into the conversation experience. It’s also built on BASE, giving it access to Ethereum’s ecosystem. While the concept of combining communication with Web3 ownership is innovative, adoption is still at an early stage. Competing with established messaging apps may be a challenge, but the focus on decentralization and user ownership makes Towns App an interesting project to watch for those curious about the intersection of social platforms and blockchain.

“UX is poor and airdrop execution opaque”I've started using Towns in April 2025. The idea is good to create towns and join others. But honestly the UX is bad. Navigating between towns is painful, they take a % everytime you pay to join a town. Moreover they wrongly slashed a lot of people as "sybil" for the airdrop.

“Doing something right”With the amount of users they have gathered in such short time, I must say they are doing something right. I am optimistic what they are building will stand the test of time and reward early users too. All the best to them.

“Future Messaging Base Station”如果你使用过Towns，就会觉得它的体验非常棒。它是我见过的最好的社交金融项目之一，拥有一流的团队支持。信息和隐私的未来将是去中心化和链上的，而 Towns 将是这一趋势的发源地。非常看好Towns 。

“Towns and deceiving people during the distribution of the drop.”From the very beginning, Towns positioned itself as a competitor to discord, which from the very beginning was clear that it was not real, but finding your community and building a platform together was quite real from the very beginning, everything was fine, everyone showed the asset, someone created whole channels and tried to make his audience go to tomws instead of other programs that are similar in functionality. Then the project said that it allocates 10% per drop, which gave people hope in drops. But everyone knows the exit itself, how the listing on the exchanges was originally completed, but no one knew how to get their tokens so bad, the team transferred their tokens to the Binance exchange little by little, after which they gave people the opportunity to pick up their tokens when the team did not make a bad drain of tokens. And in addition to all this, the team divided only 3% of the drop into people out of the promised 10% of another scam project. Rephrase
