Towns is a Web3 social infrastructure platform built on Base that enables token-gated, on-chain communities with encrypted messaging, ownership mechanics, and monetization features—often compared to Discord but with blockchain integration. The product has attracted genuine users who appreciate its clean interface, community focus, and features like tipping and membership NFTs, though adoption remains concentrated within niche Web3 communities. Post-TGE, the project faced significant challenges including disappointing airdrop distributions, token price decline of over 90%, user retention issues after mercenary farmers departed, and slower technical performance compared to competitors—leaving it positioned as a solid concept with real product foundation but struggling to maintain momentum and broader appeal.

“Create Your Own Community”Towns App allows you to create your own community and communicate directly with members. Many things can be done within the app. I've been using it since day one. I was eligible for airdrops when TGE was introduced. The maximum member limit for a clan is 100, which makes it a bit elitist. I think this is the most important aspect that needs to be changed.

“Towns is taking over”I am biased here but Towns is the future of community in crypto.

“visible but uneven trust”310 reviews and a solid influence score of 217 give Towns App visibility, yet with no vouches and zero xp the foundation feels lighter than the surface momentum suggests.

“the concept is fire”why i like towns, built on the River Protocol. its a decentralized app lets you craft and rule your own digital "town squares" with permissionless access and token-based ownership.

“Community owned”This messenger brings communication on-chain secure, sovereign, and community-owned. Built on @TownsProtocol, it reimagines messaging not just as a service, but as part of the decentralized stack. With a focus on privacy, composability, and user control, it’s a bold step toward a more open, trustless internet. Not just Web3 native Web3 aligned.

“crypto-native Discord”Towns started out as one of the most promising community platforms in Web3. It felt like a crypto-native Discord: easy to use, great for managing groups, with token-gating and tipping tools that gave real utility. Early on, I was using it daily and genuinely thought it could become the go-to hub for Web3 communities. But the excitement didn’t last. The airdrop and token launch were handled in a way that left a bad taste. Instead of rewarding the people who actually used the platform and believed in it, most rewards were slashed, and a big portion was quietly reserved for insiders. The TGE ended up looking more like a cash grab than a community moment. I still think the product itself has potential, but the way they managed the launch broke a lot of trust. Towns has to work hard to win that back if they want to keep real users around.

“Why Towns Feels Like the Future of SocialFi”I’ve been diving into Towns recently, and it really stands out compared to the usual community platforms. It doesn’t just feel like another Discord clone, it actually feels native to Web3. Setting up and running a community is smooth, and the on-chain features like token access and tipping add a layer that other platforms just can’t replicate. Of course, it’s not perfect yet, some features still feel like they’re in progress, but the direction is promising. With an airdrop coming up and more updates on the way, I think Towns has the potential to shape how SocialFi communities organize and grow. It’s definitely one I’ll be keeping an eye on.

“Discord on web3”An interesting application. It resembles Discord, but on the blockchain.

“Staked, Watching”I got my airdrop from Towns, still staking it and overall, it’s been one of the more satisfying projects I’ve backed in recent months. From the beginning, the team showed they weren’t just chasing buzz: airdrops, yes, but also real staking mechanics, governance, and meaningful rewards for early users. The community is solid, too. Conversations aren’t just hollow message spam; there’s a sense people care, ask questions, help each other, and hold the team somewhat accountable. The team seems to respect that I see updates, transparency around staking, and features like decentralized messaging and programmable “Spaces.” Still, nothing’s perfect. Fees and token volatility are real concerns. Also, while staking rewards are there, they sometimes feel slower than promised or less impactful for smaller holders. But even with those caveats, holding and staking feels worthwhile.

“Cool app”I used this app a couple of times, overall the emotions are positive. At this stage they have not received due attention, but in the future, if coinbase pushes them, everything may change

“Community based”Towns app demonstrates strong innovation and reliability as a crypto-native community platform. With an overall performance rating of approximately 85%, it stands out for its decentralized design, secure wallet-based identity, and seamless community interaction. The platform reflects solid execution, forward-thinking technology, and growing relevance within the Web3 ecosystem.
